California is home to some of the world’s largest and most inspiring Gay Pride festivals. The first of these were begun as efforts to express support and solidarity for LGBTQ rights following New York City’s infamous Stonewall Riots of 1969, and over the years they’ve spread into even relatively small cities around the world.

Some communities hold Pride-related events—including art and history exhibits, concerts, film screenings, workshops, and myriad parties—over a full week or more leading up to the main day or weekend, when there’s typically a Pride parade and festival.  And most of the larger Pride festivals feature community marketplaces or expos at which local organizations and businesses looking to reach out to the LGBTQ community appear. If you’re planning a wedding or a gay vacation, you may very well encounter some vendors, hotels, travel agencies, and other businesses of interest at the next Pride festival you attend. Of course, another excellent resource is our comprehensive California Gay Wedding Resource Guide.

California’s largest cities—Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Long Beach—all have particularly spirited Pride celebrations that draw participants and spectators from all over the world. Smaller Pride events take place throughout the state, from Humboldt County Gay Pride in Eureka to Sonoma County Gay Pride in Guerneville to Orange County Gay Pride in Santa Ana.

Here’s a 2017 calendar of California Gay Pride festivals, along with details on a handful of prominent celebrations in nearby states or other parts of the West Coast, including Las Vegas, Phoenix, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, and a few others. The events below are listed in chronological order.
