NAMES Jenny Swiatowy & Kasey Truman LIVE IN Highland Park, Los Angeles OCCUPATIONS Jenny is a music executive; Kasey is a music supervisor. HOW THEY MET They’d bumped into each other many times professionally prior to their first true date at Mohawk Bend restaurant. Kasey: “When Jenny walked in, my heart skipped and I thought, Oh, this is going to be interesting. She’s gorgeous.” HOW THEY GOT ENGAGED During a Christmas vacation on Kauai to celebrate Jenny’s birthday, Kasey proposed to her on the beach. “I had no idea it was coming—zero clue,” says Jenny, who was also moved by the incredible support from high school classmates, teachers, and relatives when they announced their engagement on Facebook. “I could feel the progress that has been made—hearts and minds were changing even in my small conservative hometown.” BACHELORETTE PARTIES Jenny went to Ojai for a spa and meditation weekend, and Kasey went horseback riding and to dinner with her bridal party. WEDDING DAY WEATHER Perfect—sunny and beautiful NUMBER OF GUESTS 144 WEDDING COLORS Navy, blush, and gold FLOWERS Simple florals were selected to complement the venue’s stunning desert backdrop. DIY HIGHLIGHTS Reclaimed doors and a crystal chandelier framed the aisle entryway (and, later, the “sweetheart table”). They created a photo booth with Polaroid cameras and props. THE MENU Family-style Italian appetizers—meatballs, bruschetta, caprese sticks, crostini, and porchetta sliders—followed by 75 12-inch pizzas and arugula–roasted beet–winter squash salads DESSERT A two-layer chocolate-vanilla “naked cake” MUSIC Though both brides work in the music industry, “it was tough getting into music supervisor mode for something so personal,” says Jenny. The couple’s first dance was to Tom Odell’s cover of The Beatles’ “Real Love.” The processional song resulted from a happy accident—Kasey had asked some writers at work to develop a song for a specific project that ultimately didn’t work out. But the song, “I’ll Be by Your Side,” fit perfectly for the wedding. FAVORITE DETAIL Kasey: “Reaching the aisle, with my parents on either side, and seeing this mass of loved ones. Then, at the end of the aisle, stood my closest friends and the person I was about to marry. It feels like 30 memories wrapped into one.” UNIQUE ELEMENTS OF THE DAY Experiencing so much love. Jenny: “I don’t know whether I’ve ever felt something so powerful or whether I ever will again.” UNEXPECTED EVENT After the reception, a small group joined the couple to attend Palm Springs Pride. ADVICE FOR OTHERS Decide on a budget before you choose a venue and start planning. Then delegate the event-day planning and coordination to someone you trust. THE DAY IN THREE WORDS Joyous, fun, magical
